Holidays are a great way to boost your marketing. People tend to do more shopping around these times, so it’s important for you to take advantage of that. Here are some tips on how to improve your marketing during holidays.

Do Something for Every Holiday Most business only do holiday-themed promotions during the “holiday season” (i.e. winter). However, there’s no reason you can’t do some creative marketing for the other major holidays throughout the year. You should also consider looking through some of the more obscure/random/bizarre/wacky holidays and see if any fit well with your business and in your niche. This is a great and fun way to market.

Offer Special Promotions, Incentives, or Discounts Use the holiday as a timeframe for savings. Offer certain discounts (free shipping, perhaps) during the holiday, and do what you can to make it relate to the holiday. For instance, during the Fourth of July you can discount any Americana you have.

Include a Countdown Clock In partnership with those incentives, include a countdown clock on your website. This will help create a sense of urgency and let people know the sale doesn’t last forever.

Write Some Themed Articles Anytime a holiday comes around, people are often looking for “10 Ways to Celebrate [Holiday]” or “The History of [Holiday]” articles. Write an article or blog post – maybe related to your business, maybe not – that people will want to read.

Offer Gift Certificates Gift Certificates are a great way to take advantage of the holiday season, especially if you can offer them with some sort of holiday-related card. Overall, gift cards are becoming a popular gift, so you’ll want to take advantage of that.

Change Your Website Make small changes to your site – an updated logo, a holiday-related banner, etc. – when a new holiday approaches. Couple this with any offers you may have and it will help bring everything together.

Host Contests Holidays are a great time to host a contest. Offer people who sign up for your newsletter a chance to win a prize, or have people send in pictures of them using your product and give the winner a gift card.

Send e-Cards When major holidays approach, use your mailing list to send out an e-card thanking them for being your customer. This is also a great time to let them know about those holiday-related offers and incentives.
